HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

It's Independence Day!
Yay!

He said he was going to pee.
We were sitting at the end of the driveway in our lawn chairs,
watching the neighbors shoot off their fireworks.
But then he said he had to go "break the seal".

When one of the neighbors waved at the top of my house...
there was the man on the roof!
I said...
"Are you peeing up there?"
He smiled, then came back down.
I'm probably glad he didn't say yes or no.

I'm hoping to keep him off the roof this year.
Otherwise, we will stay home and barbecue...
and once more drag the chairs to the end of the driveway.
At the appropriate time, we will toast America...
(Another year older and deeper in debt!)
And be grateful for our freedom and those who have made it so.

I sort of miss the fireworks over the big river in
D P's H.
There is something about the combination of
firey explosions over water.
Distorted reflections in windy waves.
Magical.

I do not miss the noise and confusion of crowds at the fair grounds
from my youth.
Nope.
BBQ, lawn chairs, duck feet and a brew...
Cheers everybody!

  1. Sounds like you're in for a wonderful holiday. The best thing is always spending it with someone or the someones you love!

  2. laura b.-I could not agree more! It doesn't matter where you are or if you barbecue or get Chinese take out... its who you are with that makes it special. =:)

  4. billy pilgrim- LOL. I can honestly say that I have never peed off any roof... ever! However, I have been friends with several who have. Kind of like writing your name in the snow. I can't do that either.

  5. For the record, I haven't peed off any roof either. Being female, it would be quite messy
    :-)

I did, however, jump off my parents' roof once and didn't break my neck or any other bones.

We had a quiet celebration for a change. Just hung out as a family.

  6. Cube- I have enough trouble using the woods when camping!
I managed to keep him off the roof... though he was all for taking our chairs up there. Its not the climb up, but the climb down that worries me.
Our friend didn't show up, but we suspected that she might not. So we had a lovely evening with the neighbors at the end of the driveway. Then played "Ploy", a game from 1970 that is sort of a shortened space age chess. I am terrible at it. But in my defense, he's had since 1970 to practice.
I think family gatherings are the best for holidays.
We used to sun bathe on the roof and then jump off into the pool. Weeee... Glad you didn't break any bones that time. =;D

  7. Hello Silly Rabbit - I hope my incomplete comment wasn't sent - it just seemed to disappear. I'll try again. This spring, we drove the coast of OR and visited Portland. You live in a beautiful state. I like your 4th of July story - congratulations on POTW!
