TRIPPING AGAIN

I have no idea where this picture came from...
its been in my picture files for a long time.
I didn't take it and I don't claim it.
And I don't have permission.
I'd say "Sue me" but someone probably would.
I just like it so much!

I am so excited!
I know that I told you that we are expecting a grand daughter
"Olivia"
on March 6th.
That's only two days away!
Woot!

Bear and Squeaky and my X have all
united to talk me into coming up for the event...
and once more to surprise Boo and Saucy...
who think that I am not going to be able to come up.

I wonder how many times this surprise thing will work?
Eventually someone is going to think that I will show up...
and then I won't.
Wow.
That will be a bummer.
Well, we will worry about that then.

I asked the man.
No, I do not HAVE to ask the man.
Its simply polite to consider his feelings.
Especially since it will require his assistance
to get me to the bus station and then home again when I return.
It also affects our budget.

The point is...
I'm going to go!
I will get to meet Olivia with the rest of my brood.
=:]

I am not exactly looking forward to the bus trip.
But I am looking forward to the adventure!
I am thinking that I will spend two nights.
Squeaky will come and stay with me in the cabin.
We will have a good visit that way.

Of course there is a part of me that does not want to leave
the man behind.
Who will feed him and take care of him?
Okay... he does know how to do those things for himself.
Goodness knows he did it long enough before me.

But you know...
its nice to think that maybe he won't enjoy not having me
around to take care of him.
Rather than think that he will be jumping around
in his whitey tighties playing air guitar as soon
as I head out the door.

The excitement builds as I type.
I can't wait to see my kids...
and I am so glad that I will be there for
Olivia's birth.
I haven't missed one yet...
and I don't want to!

I will take pictures.
I will have a great time.
And I will still miss the man.
But then...
I suspect that coming home will be extra nice too.
.

SMELL THE ROSES

In the house where I grew up, New Years Day had two guarantees.  We would carefully reverse the process of taking down the Christmas tree and the entire family would watch the Rose Bowl.  My parents were both graduates of USC, who often earned  the opportunity to play in that great bowl game.  Twice before working my way to middle school we actually attended in person, though I was too little to appreciate the honor of that.  To my little eyes, it was very noisy and hard to see the football guys for adult butts and backs. =:/

The new year does not start until the Rose Bowl is played.  I find it very disconcerting to have it played on Jan. 2nd instead of the 1st.  But sometime back, they decided that the NFL would always play on Sundays...
and now whenever the 1st lands on a Sunday, the Rose Bowl is pushed over one day.  It still feels funny to watch it on the 2nd.

By now any of you who care about football know that my Ducks won the Rose Bowl!  Woot!  The teams were evenly matched, so it was a good close game.   I tip my hat to both teams for playing well with a spirit of good sportsmanship.  No shoving matches, no dirty deeds.  It was a pleasure to watch.

A couple of interesting notes.  Two years ago the Ducks lost the Rose Bowl.  One year ago the Badgers lost the Rose Bowl. So it was a contest between the last two losing Rose Bowl teams.  The Ducks have not won the Rose Bowl since 1917!  All the sweeter the victory.

Now no more Duck games until next season.  Sigh.  Time to turn our attention elsewhere.

The sun is shining today and for December in Oregon, it is as lovely a day as you can get.  The breeze is up, so its not warm, but it is pretty.  I may suit up and don my warm gloves to pull weeds. Most of them are dead and the ground is moist enough to let them come out without much trouble. Its an opportunity to get out into the sun shine and enjoy what I can of it.

Later today I might sit down and do a bit of carving. I have a bear to finish and a fish to begin. The man built me a laundry cabinet that he needs to spray today before it can be installed.  They have no side jobs at the moment and are still waiting on payment from the last job. A minor frustration.  The man has decided that from now on payment will have to be made up front.  This payment has been pushed back three times.  So it goes.

Meanwhile we will take time to enjoy smelling our roses... and plant seeds for things to come.

BAGGAGE SSS

Time for SSS's word for the week...
BAGGAGE!

Of course the firs thing that comes to mind is the type of baggage that is old business...
of the kind we would rather leave behind,
yet somehow don't.
As in my X got drunk last night and sent me some weird emails.
His baggage, not mine.
No anger though, just some rambling thoughts.
=:/

The other type of baggage is of the luggage type...
as seen with the silly rabbit vacation
at the top of the page.
Like those silly rabbits,
I tend to pack light...
taking mostly myself wherever I go.
=:]

But when I have to do some real heavy duty packing...
such as with my move here...
my baggage of choice is
this versatile beauty!
Yep, I'm a trash bag packer.

My kids used to joke...
well actually they still joke...
that when I die...
they would bury me in a "Hefty Bag".
I say they better use a "Glad Bag" instead!

Have a great weekend my friends.
I will watch my Ducks today and hope for a win...
and celebrate Bear's Birthday
tomorrow.
Woot!
